Magen-Hebrew Name Of God - meaning the Lord is my Shield

Magen is the Hebrew name for God meaning, the Lord is my shield, my protector. God is your shield. You might not be able to see all that God protects you from but He does protect you. The Bible tells us that God shields us from enemy fire. Ancient shields were often made of layered cowhide and were used in situations of close combat as well as to protect soldiers from rocks hurled at them from city walls. They could also be used as shade during the heat of the day, a shelter to rest under at night. Keep this image on your mind as we discover the scripture treasure in this awesome name of God!

Name Of God, Magen-The Lord Is My Shield:

The Bible tells us that God is your shield. He is my shield and my protector! That means He is yours too!

We don't always see or know what God protects us from and I am so grateful for that. It saves quite a bit of stress.

I am sure you, like me, have been hurt by the words and actions of others. If you ever feel under attack- which could be personal, financial, or some other type of attack, take courage and remember Psalm 3:3.

The Lord is your protective shield about you. He sees and knows what is happening to you. Ask for His help. Invite Him into the middle of your situation and ask for His protection and wisdom on how to take care of this attack.

I mentioned above that shields could also be used as shade during the heat of the day, and a shelter to rest under at night. In order for the shield to be effective, it had to fit whatever or whomever it was covering. This is true for you and me in our daily life. We need the appropriate shield for whatever reason or situation that we find ourselves in. There is only one way to find the perfect shield and that is in God's presence.

We are so blessed! We carry God's presence continually, once we have surrendered our lives to Him. We have unlimited access to our Shield and Protector!

We do this by walking in faith, reading, learning, and praying God's word. Then when those fiery darts and arrows are fired at us, we have God's words of truth to calm our minds and instruct us in a godly approach to the problem at hand. God's word, scripture has the firepower to pray over ourselves and our loved ones. Scripture makes a great shield!

"In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil." Ephesians 6:16

Paul warns us in Ephesians 6 to take up the shield of faith to stop the fiery darts of the devil. You don't always see those fiery darts coming until they hit. They can take different forms, for example, a body and mind trapped in sin, an unexpected job loss, or marital issues. The shield of faith is the protective armor that God has given us for daily battles.

Roman centurions would not think of going into battle without their shields. In Ephesians 6, the apostle Paul was comparing the necessity of a Christian taking up the shield of faith to the necessity of the Roman soldier taking up his shield for battle.

What battle are you fighting right now?

Magen-The Lord Is My Shield is always the answer. He is the only one that can be effective in your daily battles.

Do you know why?

God is our shield

The apostle Paul tells us why the Lord is our shield. He warns us in Ephesians 6:12 that our

" struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Remember this when you know you might lose your temper and say the wrong thing or when someone you know makes the wrong decision and takes drugs, steals an item, or even that battle we all have with our family at times when we can't get them to come to church.

My husband has the awesome privilege of being a church minister. He is really good at preaching (I may be a bit biased!) but you can always see some people disengage or they totally hear the opposite of what is being preached!

One evening we were taking a class of teenagers and teaching about discipleship. To engage them we used a really good video that was created for their age group. Those wonderful kids heard the exact opposite of what had been spoken. If I hadn't been in the room, I would not have believed it!

There were 8 teens and they all heard the same thing. I learned that night how important prayer is, especially before preaching and teaching God's word. We need to pray often to God as Magen - our shield.

So take up your shield of faith through prayer and reading God's word.

If you are in a battle today, take up your shield of faith. Go to God in prayer and ask Him to lift your head, to protect your mind from wrong thoughts and your heart from breaking. The Lord will be your shield.
