A chronological Bible reading plan takes you through Scripture in the order events happened — not just how they appear in the table of contents. This approach helps you see God’s redemption story unfold from beginning to end, deepening your understanding of His Word.
What Is a Chronological Bible Reading Plan?
A chronological Bible reading plan is a way of reading Scripture in the actual order that events took place in history — rather than the order the books appear in your Bible.
Most printed Bibles group books by type — the Law, History, Poetry, Prophets, Gospels, and Epistles — rather than by the chronological order of the events they describe. That means the storyline of the Bible isn’t always linear. For example, Job is believed to have lived during the time of Genesis, and 1 & 2 Chronicles overlap with 2 Samuel and Kings.
When you read the Bible chronologically, you follow God’s story from the very beginning in Genesis, through Israel’s history, the life and ministry of Jesus, and the birth of the early church, all the way to the final promises in Revelation.

How to Follow a Chronological Bible Reading Plan
Starting a chronological Bible reading plan is a wonderful way to experience Scripture with fresh eyes—but it’s also important to approach it with grace and a plan that works for you.
Here are some simple steps to help you begin:
1. Choose your pace
Decide whether you’d like to complete the plan in one year, six months, or even longer. There’s no rush—what matters most is consistency and time spent in God’s Word.
If you’re new to reading the Bible daily, start small. Aim for 15–20 minutes a day, and let it grow naturally as your hunger for Scripture deepens.
2. Pray before you begin
Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and give you understanding as you read. The goal isn’t just to gain information—but to grow in a relationship with the Author of the Bible Himself.
3. Keep a Bible journal
Write down insights, promises, or questions that arise as you read. This helps you remember what God is teaching you and track your spiritual growth through the journey.
