He is Risen! Easter Sunday marks the most powerful turning point in all of history—the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This devotion for Easter Sunday| He Is Risen, is an excerpt from my Bible study book Redeemed by the Cross, available now on Amazon and in our digital Bible study shop.

As you read, I invite you to pause and reflect on the joy of the empty tomb, the hope we have in Christ, and the invitation to live every day in the light of His resurrection. Let this Easter devotional draw you deeper into the heart of God and the victory we now share because of Jesus.

Devotion For Easter Sunday| He Is Risen!

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee;

there they will see me.”

He Is Risen!

We have arrived at Resurrection Sunday! The day that changed history forever.

  • Imagine you are one of the women going to the tomb that morning.

  • Grief is still fresh—you just saw Jesus die.

  • Confusion fills your heart—why did things happen this way?

  • And then… an angel appears.

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” (Matthew 28:6)

The impossible had happened. Death was defeated.

The first resurrection witnesses were women, something shocking in ancient culture.

They saw the angel, who told them not to be afraid. The stone was rolled away, proving Jesus’ power over death. They ran with joy and fear, eager to share the good news.

Then Jesus Himself appeared to them!

What was their response?

They fell at His feet and worshiped Him!

Then Jesus told the women to tell His brothers to meet Him at Galilee.

“Go and tell My brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see Me.” (Matthew 28:10)

Take note:

Jesus calls the disciples “My brothers”—a term

of love and grace.

  • Even though they abandoned Him, He still calls them family.

  • This is the heart of Jesus—always forgiving, always restoring.

Lent began with reflection and repentance. It led us through the cross's suffering and Holy Saturday's silence.

But today, we rejoice! The resurrection means new life, forgiveness, and eternal hope. The work of salvation is complete! We no longer carry the weight of sin—Jesus has overcome it.

Easter is not just a day—it’s a reality we live in every single day.

Celebrate the resurrection today!

  • Read John 20:1-18, the account of the risen Jesus.

  • Write a prayer of thanksgiving for the victory of the cross.

  • Share the good news! Share the hope of Jesus with someone.
