Devotional Bible Study: Walking With God | Deuteronomy 5:33.

Welcome to Day 16. for one of our short powerful devotions from the 30 Bible Verses About God's Amazing Grace, bible reading plan. This short devotional is based on Deuteronomy 5:33.

Read Deuteronomy 5:33.

Deuteronomy 5 Meaning

Deuteronomy chapter 5 is so worth reading, it will give you the full context behind this verse! In this chapter, Moses was about to go be with the Lord, and the next generation of God’s people was about to enter the Promised Land. So, God, had Moses remind Israel of their covenant with God that they made at Mount Sinai. He reminds them that God had made a covenant with them, face to face on the mountain in the midst of the fire. The term face to face does not mean “literal face to literal face,” but is a Hebraic figure of speech meaning “intimate, free communication.”

Moses reminds them about the commandments that God had given them. The people of Israel understood that God is holy and that they were not. They decided to do what the Lord their God told them to do. They promised to keep the law of God.

God was pleased with Israel’s response. Their response was evidence that they took Him seriously.

The Promise In Deuteronomy 5:33

This leads us to Deuteronomy 5:33, our verse today. There is a wonderful promise in this verse not just for the people of Israel but for us too. The promise that we all receive is that when we do what the Lord our God commands us, all will be well and our days will be prolonged in the land that we will possess.

That is quite a promise and join me below in our devotional as we unpack together the meaning of Deuteronomy 5:33.

Walking With God Devotional:

What does walking with God mean?

Walking with God means surrendering our hearts to Him and walking in His ways that He directs us. We read in our previous devotional on Micah 6:8 that God wants us to walk humbly with Him.

God is holy and He desires for us unholy people to walk with Him. God desires to have fellowship with us and that is why Jesus had to come to earth to bridge that gap that our sin made. Once we know Jesus and surrender our lives to Him, our unholiness is covered and we can have a right standing with God.

God loves you. That is why He commands us to obey His rules. He knows that our lives will go much better if we obey the commandments that He has given. God wants us to wake up each morning and turn our thoughts to Him and ask Him for His direction in our day.

You will learn to hear His direction as you read your Bible and study bible verses like we are doing right now and then prayerfully apply them to your life.

Walking Faithfully With God

Walking with God means we are to walk faithfully with Him. That means walking with Him each day through the good ones and the bad ones. It means expecting God to give you the strength to walk through each day even when you think that you cannot take another step!

Walk in God's strength

One of my favorite verses that constantly encourages me in my walk with God is Isaiah 40:31.

When you surrender everything to God, your heart, mind, and will, then God can renew your strength. You have then given God permission to work in your life so that it may go well with you.

At the very beginning of this devotional, we talked about the people of Israel who had met ' face to face ' with God.

God is calling you to walk Face to Face with Him

Can you imagine meeting God, ' face to face '?

At that time, the people of Israel didn't have literal ' face time ' with God but they had “intimate, free communication.” This was unusual. But you and I can have this intimate, free communication all the time with God because of the work of the cross.

God is calling you to walk with Him. He wants to have fellowship with you.

Are you walking with the Lord?

Are you walking faithfully with God?

Consider these questions during your devotional time and use the free printable prayer journal below to help you go deeper in your walk with God.
