The word "rock" represents God's permanence, His protection, and His enduring faithfulness. God is described as our Rock throughout the books of the prophets and Psalms.

The New Testament identifies Jesus as the spiritual rock that accompanied the Israelites during the long walk through the desert. You can read about that in 1 Corinthians 10:1-5. He is also described as the stone the builders rejected but He has become the cornerstone of God's church. We will be looking at various scriptures with this beautiful description of God.

Yahweh Tsuri - the Lord is my rock meaning

The Bible is filled with references to God as a rock. During the time of the Old Testament, rocks provided shade and shelter in the wilderness. They were used to create altars, temples, houses, and city walls. Also, piles of stones memorialized important events in Israel's history. Don't forget that Moses was given the Ten Commandments at the top of Mount Sinai on stone tablets so that all generations could learn God's law.

5. Living Stones for God’s House

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. 1 Peter: 2:4-8
