Devotional Bible Study: Asking God For Wisdom | Proverbs 8:17.

Welcome to Day 22. for one of our short powerful devotions from the 31 Bible Verses About Practicing The Presence Of God. This short devotional is based on Proverbs 8:17.

Read Proverbs 8:17.

"I love those who love me,

And those who seek me diligently will find me."

What does Proverbs 8:17 mean?

King Solomon is the author of much of the book of Proverbs and he is the author of Proverbs chapter 8. In this chapter, Solomon personified wisdom as a lady offering affection and friendship. It is a great word picture of Christ the wisdom of God and the promises of our love are rewarded when we seek God diligently. Keep in mind that King Solomon was a wise man who diligently sought God and he was well rewarded!

Throughout his reign, Solomon loved the God of Israel and covenanted with God that he would walk in obedience throughout his administration as king of Israel. Solomon was promised wisdom, riches, honor, and long life if he would continue in righteousness before the Lord. The promise was fulfilled. Under Solomon’s reign, Israel gained honor, wealth, power, and respect. Many people from many nations came to hear him and test his understanding and knowledge.

King Solomon writes about Lady Wisdom. She promises love to those who love her, and she promises to be easily found by those who seek her early.

What or who does Lady Wisdom represent?

What is wisdom?

According to the Miriam-Webster dictionary, wisdom is the ability to discern inner qualities and relationships, have good judgment, and a wise attitude, belief, or course of action.

Lady Wisdom in Proverbs 8:17 represents God's infinite wisdom. All wisdom comes from God.

1 Corinthians 1:24.

"But to those who are called, whether Jew or Greek (Gentile), Christ [is] the Power of God and the Wisdom of God." AMPC.

Jesus is the wisdom of God.

Join me below for a short devotional about asking God for wisdom and His plan for our lives.

Short Devotional: Asking God For Wisdom

It is so important for us to be wise. We need wisdom in making all our decisions throughout the day, every day of our lives. We aren't perfect and you and I will make mistakes but when we diligently seek God's wisdom, we will make better judgment calls that will lead to a better quality of life for ourselves and all the people in our sphere of influence.

When we ask God for wisdom and diligently seek Him, we will be walking in His plan for our lives, God's perfect plan. That is a safe place to be in!

That doesn't necessarily mean that God's way is easy but God sees the bigger picture. His ways are not our ways but God has a better plan for your life and it is good.

Ask God For Wisdom

Did you know that God gave King Solomon an opportunity to ask Him for anything that he wanted and God would give it to him? 1Kings 3:5

Solomon chose wisely and this was his request:

1 Kings 3:9.

"Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

We have already discussed in our Bible study above that God granted this request and under Solomon’s reign, Israel gained honor, wealth, power, and respect. Many people from many nations came to hear him and test his understanding and knowledge.

Ask God for this same wisdom that God gave Solomon!

What is God's plan for you?

The wisdom that Solomon had was not gained from learning knowledge from books and scholars. It was righteous wisdom that comes only from God. We need this same wisdom to make good choices in our everyday lives. This wisdom comes from being prayerfully in God's presence.

Here is a verse that will encourage to ask God for His wisdom;

1 Kings 4:29.

"And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore." NKJV
