Devotional Bible Study: You Are God's Masterpiece | Ephesians 2:10.

Welcome to Day 17. for one of our short powerful devotions from the 30 Bible Verses About God's Amazing Grace, bible reading plan. This short devotional is based on Ephesians 2:10.

Read Ephesians 2:10.

Ephesians 2:10 Meaning

Paul the Apostle is encouraging the believers in the church at Ephesus. He had just been reminding them that it was by God's grace, His unmerited favor that they were saved through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9) It wasn't anything that they had done or could do except only by believing that Jesus Christ had taken their place on the cross to pay for their sins. It is the same news for us and it gets even better!

We are told in Ephesians 2:10 that we are God's workmanship or in other Bible translations, we are called God's masterpiece.

I am sure you have witnessed some beautiful sunsets. God is the greatest Master of artists. He has created the most amazing masterpieces, but sunsets are not His greatest masterpiece. God's greatest masterpiece of all creation is you!

You are God's masterpiece, an ever-changing work of art on display in this world, all for His glory!

Join me below for our short devotional as we explore what are the good works of Ephesians 2:10? and what does it mean to be God's handiwork?

Short Devotional:Ephesians 2:10

What are the good works of Ephesians 2:10?

We are God’s masterpiece; We are God’s workmanship and we are God’s handiwork.

We are a new creation in Christ Jesus. We were born spiritually dead in our sins but now because of God's mercy and grace, we now have a new life through the work of Jesus on the cross. This is exciting news!

God created you to do amazing things. So what are the good works that Ephesians 2:10 talks about?

Good works could be attending church and taking part in the service. It could be giving your time to serve in the different ministries associated with church such as children's ministry, creche or even serving tea and coffee at the end of your church service.

Good works could be praying continuously, tithing your money or maybe even serving as a missionary for a period of time.

These are some ideas of what 'good works' might look like.

You are God's Masterpiece

But I think our verse today goes a bit deeper than what we have just discussed. The last part of our verse today says that God has prepared good works, "prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

God has a unique plan and purpose for you and for me. He has given us different gifts to be used to further His kingdom.

You have been given totally different gifts than the ones that I have been given.

Have you read Psalm 139:13-16? It talks about how precious you are! God saw you when you were made in the secret place and growing in your mother's womb. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

God has a plan for your life. God is preparing you to work for Him.

God is preparing you for greater things.

What does it mean to be God's handiwork?

Walking with God is both exciting and painful at times. You and I are God's masterpieces. We are been shaped and fashioned into the unique people that God has created us to be.

I'm sure you have found your path has not been straight. I'm sure just like me, you have been frustrated at times when things don't work out the way you expect them to or that you are in a period of waiting for your circumstances to change.

God grows us through the storms that we go through. We need to lean on Him and trust Him at all times.

Prayerfully spend time with God reading your Bible and asking Him to refine your heart and grow your faith. Ask God to reveal to you the work that He has planned for you to do.

God's masterpiece takes a lifetime to create

Here are some things to remember as God perfects His handiwork in you:

  • A masterpiece takes a long time to create. You will be surprised at the new perfection that you will see in the future. You will be surprised at how over time you become more and more like Jesus. That happens when you hang out with Him!

  • A masterpiece is very detailed and intricate. Tiny transformations are not always easy to see, but changes are still being made. It takes patience to see them. (I know it! I have been there and am still there!)

  • A masterpiece is one-of-a-kind. You are unique. There is no one else like you!

  • Write this verse on your heart, it will encourage you. Jeremiah 29:11.

  • And write this verse on your heart too! Isaiah 43:1-2.

You are God's masterpiece and I am God's masterpiece. We are both growing and changing under God's workmanship. God is preparing us for greater things. To help you go through your refining process, I have prepared a free prayer journal that contains 3o Bible verses on God's amazing grace.
