Updated: Jul 8, 2023

Welcome to Day 24 for a short powerful devotion from our 30 Psalms For Anxiety, Fear, Worry, And Depression bible plan. This short devotional is from Psalm 121:5-8. And make sure to join me in prayer at the bottom of this post.

The Lord Watches Over You

Read Psalm 121:5-8. (Click on the verse to read it in various translations.)

"The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore." ESV.

Psalm 121 is often referred to as the "Traveler's Psalm" or the "Psalm of Travelers" due to its emphasis on God's protection and care during journeys. Read all of Psalm 121 when you have time and use it as a tool for prayer.

Today's devotional study focuses on four beautiful verses from Psalm 121, marking the final study in the section on fear within our 30-Day Bible Study on Psalms for Anxiety, Fear, Worry, and Depression. You do not need to fear because the Lord watches over you.

What does it mean God watches over you?

In our journey through life, we often encounter various challenges, uncertainties, and fears. It is during these times that we find solace, assurance, and guidance from God when we seek His help. The Lord watches over you.

Psalm 121 provides us with a powerful reminder of God's unwavering protection and guidance. Let's study verses 5-8 and discover the profound truths that can transform our perspective on life's trials and uncertainties.

The Lord is my keeper

Psalm 121:5 declares, "The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand." This imagery paints a picture of God as our faithful guardian, constantly watching over us. Like a shade shielding us from the scorching heat, God provides us refuge and protection. He is always by our side, defending and caring for us in times of need. As we journey through life's challenges, we can find comfort in knowing that we are never alone, for God is our faithful keeper.

Unfailing protection - Psalm 121:6

Psalm 121:6 affirms, "The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night." This verse speaks to the all-encompassing protection that God provides. It reminds us that God's care extends beyond daylight hours. Whether in the brightness of day or the darkness of night, God shields us from harm. We can trust in His unfailing protection and take refuge in His unwavering presence, finding comfort in the knowledge that nothing can overcome us without His permission.

I personally have witnessed this in my own life. God saved me at least twice from being hit by cars and I'm sure there are other instances that I am not aware of when God protected me from harm. The secret to knowing God's protection in your life is living out Psalm 91:1!

Have you any stories to share about God's protection in your life?

You do not need to fear because the Lord watches over you!

God will protect you from all evil

Psalm 121:7 declares, "The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life."

Here, we find reassurance that God is not only our protector but also our preserver of our soul. He guards us from the snares of evil and shields us from its destructive forces. Though we may face trials and temptations, we can rest in the knowledge that God's faithful watchfulness will ultimately preserve our lives. He is our shield against all harm, guiding us away from evil and leading us toward righteousness.

The Lord will watch over your coming and going

Psalm 121:8 proclaims, "The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore." This verse speaks to God's unwavering guidance throughout every aspect of our lives. It encompasses our journeys, transitions, and daily activities. God's watchful care extends from the moment we step out of our homes until we return. His guidance is not temporary but everlasting. We can rely on His wisdom, direction, and protection as we navigate life's twists and turns, both now and for eternity.

We need to do our part in partnering with God in prayer for not just our own lives but for our friends and family too.

May the Lord watch over you

Our role is to partner with God and intercede for our family, marriage, spouse, and every aspect of our lives through prayer. As we approach the Lord in prayer and surrender all these concerns to Him, placing our trust in His promises, we open the door for Him to actively work in unseen ways. Through our prayers, we invite His mighty hand to move, shielding us from hidden threats and guiding us toward His supernatural protection.
