You Are Not Alone: 20 Comforting Bible Verses That God Is With You
Have you ever felt completely alone, even when you were surrounded by people who love you?
I have. Recently, I felt that way in a way I never expected. My husband and I have been walking through a very difficult health challenge, one that changed our lives in a matter of moments.
My husband leads a church here in Ireland, and we had just finished a Sunday service. We were tidying up the church as we normally do when my husband suddenly sat down on a chair. I noticed that one side of his mouth had begun to droop.
It was one of those moments when your heart sinks because you recognize that something is terribly wrong. He was showing the classic signs of a stroke.
An ambulance was called, and despite my husband's protests that he didn't need to go to hospital, the paramedics took him in. Thankfully, the paramedics and emergency department staff were able to stabilize him, and eventually, he was admitted to the stroke ward.
And so began a healing journey neither of us had expected.
My husband is still a young man, and our hearts are full of dreams and plans for the future. We have been praying and believing for revival in Ireland, and we feel God has placed so much on our hearts to do. But suddenly, everything seemed uncertain.
We put our plans on hold. Some had to be canceled altogether. Medical appointments, tests, conversations with doctors, and so many questions about what the future might look like filled the air.
I remember the concerned expressions on the doctors' and nurses' faces. They did their very best to care for my husband, but I could see they were preparing us for the possibility that our lives might now take a very different direction.
And I wasn't ready to accept that this was how our story would end.
I know that God is good. I know that He loves us, and I believe He has good plans for our lives. So I am praying, trusting, and believing Him for a different outcome.
We have been surrounded by wonderful, faith-filled people who are praying for us, and I am already seeing things that encourage me to believe God is working a miracle in the middle of this situation.

Bible Verses About Never Being Alone
But can I share something with you?
Even with all those prayers, all that love, and all those people supporting us, I felt terribly alone.
At times, everything felt overwhelming. One minute I felt full of faith, and the next I wondered how we would navigate everything that lay ahead. My faith was wobbling a bit!
I knew what I believed about God. I knew His promises. I had spent years studying His Word, encouraging other women to trust Him, and teaching about His faithfulness. But suddenly, I needed to hear those promises for myself.
That's when I reached for my Bible.
I began searching for "you are not alone" Bible verses that would remind me of what I desperately needed to remember. I was not alone. God had not abandoned us. He was right there with us, even in the middle of the uncertainty.
I needed to remind myself that the God who had been faithful to us yesterday was still faithful today. Our circumstances had changed dramatically, but His character had not changed.
And as I read His Word, I began to find comfort in His promises again.
Not because all my questions had been answered or because I knew exactly what tomorrow would bring, but because I reminded my heart who was walking through this valley with us, and my faith muscle started to grow again!
Perhaps you're reading this because you're walking through something difficult too.
Maybe you're facing a health challenge, grieving someone you love, struggling with a relationship, or wondering how you'll make it through a season you never expected.
Or maybe you simply feel lonely, even though people are all around you.
I want to encourage you with the same Scriptures that have been encouraging me.
You are not forgotten. You are not invisible to God. You don't have to face whatever you're walking through alone.
I've gathered 20 comforting Bible verses that remind us of God's presence, His faithfulness, and His promise never to leave or forsake His children.
My prayer is that as you read them, you'll be encouraged to open your own Bible, draw close to your heavenly Father, and discover afresh just how near He really is.
Let's begin with one of God's most beautiful promises.
20 Bible Verses That Remind You That You Are Not Alone
The following "you are not alone" Bible verses are from the ESV translation.
1. Deuteronomy 31:8: God Goes Before You
"It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Whatever uncertainty lies ahead, you are not alone; God is already there. You don't have to know every step of the journey to trust the One who goes before you.
2. Isaiah 41:10: God Will Strengthen You
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
God doesn't simply promise His presence. He promises His strength and help. When you feel you cannot carry another burden, remember you can depend on Him.
3. Psalm 23:4: God Walks Through the Valley With You
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
David knew dark valleys. He faced many trials and tribulations, and he overcame them. His confidence came from knowing that he was not alone; God was with him in them.
4. Hebrews 13:5: God Will Never Forsake You
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
God's faithfulness doesn't depend on how strong you feel. Even on days when your faith wobbles, His promise remains unchanged.
5. Psalm 34:18: God Is Near the Brokenhearted
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
When your heart hurts and you feel all alone, God is not distant or indifferent. He draws near to the brokenhearted. You are not alone!
6. Isaiah 43:2: God Is With You Through the Waters
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."
God spoke these words to Israel, assuring His people of His presence during adversity. They remind us of His faithful character, even when our circumstances are frightening.
7. Joshua 1:9: Be Strong and Courageous
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Being courageous doesn't mean you never feel afraid. It means taking the next step while trusting that God is with you.
8. Psalm 46:1: God Is Your Refuge
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
When everything around you seems uncertain, God remains a secure refuge. You can turn to Him for strength when you feel overwhelmed, just like I did. Suddenly, the loneliness left, and I realized that the God who created the earth was walking right alongside me. I wasn't alone!
9. Matthew 28:20: Jesus Is With You Always
"... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Jesus gave this promise to His disciples as He commissioned them. His continuing presence is a wonderful assurance for those who belong to Him.
10. Psalm 139:7–10: You Cannot Escape God's Presence
"Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me."
No matter where life takes you, you are never beyond God's reach. His presence is not limited by distance or circumstance.

12. Psalm 25:16: You Can Tell God When You Feel Lonely

13. John 14:18: Jesus Will Not Leave You Comfortless
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."
Jesus reassured His disciples that He would not abandon them. Through the Holy Spirit, believers can experience God's continuing presence and comfort.
14. Psalm 73:23–24: God Holds Your Hand, You aren't alone
"Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory."
Even when you feel confused about what God is doing, you can trust Him to guide you. His faithful care doesn't disappear when life becomes difficult.
15. 2 Corinthians 4:8–9: You May Be Troubled, but You Are Not Forsaken
"We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;"
Paul knew what it meant to experience overwhelming circumstances. Yet he could testify that God had not abandoned him.
16. Psalm 94:19: God Comforts You When You Feel Overwhelmed
"When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul."
Have you ever felt as though you have so many worries weighing on your heart that you don't know where to begin? I certainly have. But I love how this verse reminds us that we can find comfort in God even when our circumstances haven't changed. He knows every concern, every unanswered question, and every fear we're carrying.
17. Romans 8:38–39: Nothing Can Separate You From God's Love
"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Your circumstances may change overnight, but God's love in Christ remains secure. Even the things you fear about tomorrow cannot separate you from Him.
18. Zephaniah 3:17: God Is in Your Midst
"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love; He will exult over you with loud singing."
When we feel alone, we may begin to believe we're forgotten, unwanted, or that God is distant. But this Scripture reveals something beautiful about God's character. He doesn't simply tolerate His people. He loves them and rejoices over them.
19. 2 Timothy 4:16–17: The Lord Stood With Me
"At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth."
Paul experienced the pain of people abandoning him, but he could still say, "The Lord stood with me." What a beautiful testimony of God's faithfulness.
20. Proverbs 3:5–6: You Don't Have to Figure Everything Out on Your Own
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn, and suddenly we face questions we don't have answers to. We want to know what will happen next, how everything will work out, and what the future will look like. When uncertainty overwhelms us, we can find comfort in knowing we don't have to walk this journey alone. Our loving heavenly Father is trustworthy, and we can seek His guidance one step at a time. We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we can trust the One who guides our steps.
You Are Never Alone: Draw Closer to God Through His Word
As I continue walking through this unexpected season with my husband, I'm learning how important it is to keep reminding myself who God is.
My circumstances may change, and I still don't know everything about the future. But God hasn't changed. He is still faithful, still loving, and still present in every moment. I want you to remember that, too.
When we spend time in God's Word, we begin to understand His character more deeply. We discover that He isn't a distant God who leaves us to figure everything out on our own. He is our loving heavenly Father, our refuge, our comforter, and the One who promises never to leave us.
