Biblical Names Of God: List with Meanings
Over the past few years, I’ve written over 30 blog posts unpacking the meaning and significance of these names. I’ve loved exploring each one in depth—sharing their Hebrew meanings, the Bible verses where they’re found, and what they mean for us today.
I’ve gathered them all in one place for you in this post. The complete list is below, and I’ve linked each name to the full article so you can dive deeper whenever you’re ready.
Plus, I’ve created something special to help you on your journey—a free printable list of these names with their meanings, Bible references, and even a sample of my Names of God Bible Study to help you reflect, apply, and pray through each name in your own quiet time.
Why study the Biblical Names for God?
The biblical names of God and their meanings reveal far more than simple titles. In Scripture, each name shows us something true about God’s character, His power, His faithfulness, and the way He relates to His people.
Every name tells a story.
When God revealed Himself as Yahweh Jireh—The Lord Will Provide—He was not only providing a sacrifice for Abraham. He was revealing Himself as the God who sees the need and provides at the right time.
When Hagar called Him El Roi—The God Who Sees Me—we are reminded that God is not distant from human pain. He sees, He knows, and He cares.
That is why studying the biblical names of God matters. These names are not only important in Bible history. They help us know who God is today.
As you study the names of God in the Bible, you will see that:
God is personal, not distant
God is faithful in every season
God’s character never changes
God’s names can deepen your trust, worship, and prayers
In this post, you will find 30 biblical names of God and their meanings, along with Bible references and links to help you study each one more deeply.
My prayer is that as you read through these names, you will not only learn more about what God is called, but also grow in confidence in who He is.
Let’s dive in!
