Devotional Bible Study: God Sings Over Us | Zephaniah 3:17.

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

Welcome to Day 10. for one of our short powerful devotions from the 31 Bible Verses About Practicing The Presence Of God. This short devotional is based on Zephaniah 3:17.

Read Zephaniah 3:17.

Zephaniah 3:17 is such a beautiful verse! Not only is God all-powerful and is Mighty To Save but God rejoices over us, and we are told that He rejoices over us with singing!

Did you know that the Bible tells us that God sings over you?

As we explore the Scriptures, we will uncover the beautiful truth of God's profound love for each one of us. He delights in us as His beloved daughters and sons, and His excitement and joy manifest in dancing over us! Such is the depth of His affection and care for His children.

The book of Zephaniah is a reminder to us that God has always been and always will be deeply involved in our lives. Zephaniah, the prophet recognized the sin around him. God had told him of the impending judgment against Israel and the surrounding nations. He knew that sin demands judgment but he also knew that God is merciful and eager to forgive and ultimately that God's love for all mankind is awesome!

How do you get rebellious people to comprehend how much God loves them and that they will be so blessed when they seek God with all their heart?

We need to pray for our loved ones and the world.

Hebrew meaning of Zephaniah 3:17

In the context of our verse, Zephaniah 3:17 the meaning of the phrase "rejoice over you" literally means "dance, skip, leap and spin around in joy." God dances over us!

The word "rejoice" is translated from a Hebrew word that Strongs defines as:

A primitive root; properly to spin around (under the influence of any violent emotion), that is, usually rejoice…: – be glad, joy, be joyful, rejoice.

The Hebrew word means to “spin around under violent emotion,” or basically to dance.

Did you catch that?

God dances over us ecstatically! He spins around under violent emotion because He delights in us!

Join me below for a short powerful devotional and we will discuss what does it mean that God will rejoice over us with singing? And join me for prayer too at the end of the post.

Short Devotional: what does it mean that God will rejoice over us with singing?

I found Zephaniah 3:17 in another translation and it is pretty powerful!

Did you know that God sees you through the lens of the cross?

It doesn't matter that you are not perfect. It doesn't matter that you may mess up badly at times.

What matters is that you have a heart surrendered to God. It is of most importance that you completely understand that man on his own can never be perfect enough to come into God's presence but when you surrender your heart to God and realize that the blood of Jesus that He shed on the cross, covers all your messes and my messes, our sin, that is when God spins around under violent emotion, with such joy. This is when God will rejoice over you with singing. A surrendered heart, seeking the presence of God with a passion for Him evokes much joy.

The Lord Your God Is With You He Is Mighty To Save

God is all-powerful. God is the creator of the heavens and the earth. He is the almighty God and He saves His people once we have put our trust in Him. God has restored us to eternal life through His Son, Jesus.

But there is more!

God is with us in our daily lives. He is there with us through the highs and the lows of all that comes our way. We are promised God's protection when we are hidden in Him (Psalm 91) God is the Powerful One who wins our battles. He is our protector and defender and as such, He is our victorious warrior.  Our triumphant Saviour Who is mighty to save.

Do you ever wonder how much God loves you?

When you have times of doubt, remember Zephaniah 3:17.

God takes delight in us and His love quiets us. It is a beautiful gift. We can't earn it. All you and I have to do is to accept God's gift of love and when we do, He rejoices over us with singing!

Scripture Prayer

We are called to pray without ceasing. That means we can talk with God at any time and in any place. This is a great way to practice the presence of God. Praying scripture is a powerful way to pray so join me in praying Zephaniah 3:17.

Thank you, Father, for the immeasurable mercy and grace displayed through sending Jesus to pay the ultimate price for my sins. Please open my heart to grasp the depth of Your love for me. Help me comprehend the immense joy and delight You experience when I seek Your presence.

I am grateful that You walk with me through both the highs and lows of life. I surrender all my plans to You, trusting that Your path for my life is perfect. Guide me, Father, and let me not miss any of the marvelous plans You have prepared for my journey. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
