El Elyon-God Most High: Biblical Meaning And Praying The Names Of God.

El Elyon is the Hebrew name for God meaning, God Most High. This term for God can be translated in two different ways: "the Most High God" or "God Most High." either way, they mean the same thing. God is supreme. He deserves all our focus, worship, and praise. In the New Testament Jesus is known as the Son of the Most High while the Holy Spirit is the power of the Most High. There is no one that can match El Elyon. He alone is sovereign, most powerful, and most merciful.

El Elyon-God Most High

I will thank the Lord because he is just;

I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. Psalm 7:17.

Understanding the Name Of God, El Elyon-God Most High:

El Elyon! I am lost at trying to find the words that adequately describe this name of God. He is the "Superlative" God - the all-surpassing God! The term, Elyon when applied to God means "Highest" or "Exalted One". This term emphasizes that God is the highest in every realm of life.

Let's see some examples in scripture that describe this characteristic of El Elyon:

Remember that God is good all the time. He has a good plan and a purpose for each of us. So we should prioritize our time to worship Him. The Lord wants us to seek Him passionately and to look to Him for His strength.

Psalm 57:2

I cry out to God Most High,

to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.

When you fully entrust your plans, your desires, your families, your careers, your everything, you are looking to God Most High.

Isaiah 55:8-9

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways

and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Psalm 91:1-4

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

Take to heart these Bible verses from Psalm 91:9-10.

If you make the Lord your refuge if you make the Most High your shelter,

10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.

I pray these verses constantly over myself, family, and everyone that I come in contact with both in real life and on social media. They are powerful scriptures to pray. When you read and pray them, remember that you are praying to El Elyon-God Most High. I have written a post called Scripture Plan To Battle Fear- With Psalm 91 & Other verses that you might also like to read HERE

Psalm 92:1-3

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. 2 It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, 3 accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp,

and the melody of a lyre.

El Elyon in Hebrew:

Elyon was the title given to the highest of the Canaanite gods. The Hebrews appropriated it as a title for Yahweh. It is first used in relation to Melchizedek, the king of Salem, who was also called "priest of God Most High" (Genesis 14:18-20).

The passage in Daniel regarding the interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream illustrates what happens when we forget who is the highest in heaven and on earth. You can read that in Daniel 4:19-34 HERE
