Welcome to Day 21 for a short powerful devotion from our 30 Psalms For Anxiety, Fear, Worry, And Depression bible plan. This short devotional is from Psalm 46:1-2. And make sure to join me in prayer at the bottom of this post.

God is our refuge and strength

Read Psalm 46:1-2: (Click on the verse to read it in various translations)

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,"

In the midst of life's challenges and uncertainties, it is comforting to know that we have a refuge and a source of strength in God. Psalm 46:1-2 beautifully expresses this truth, assuring us that God is our unwavering support, always present to help us through troubled times.

Ever-present help in times of need

God is your refuge and our ever-present help in times of need.

Picture this: the ground trembles beneath your feet, chaos surrounds you, and everything you once knew crumbles before your eyes. It is in those very moments that these verses come alive, speaking directly to your heart. They whisper a powerful truth: your fearlessness doesn't stem from your own strength or invincibility.

No, it springs forth from the incredible nature of our God. He is your unwavering refuge, your mighty fortress, and your ever-present companion who stands at the ready, eagerly extending a helping hand when trouble comes knocking.

God is our refuge

In the face of overwhelming circumstances, we can find solace and strength in the arms of the One who never leaves our side.

In Psalm 46:1, the psalmist begins by declaring, "God is our refuge." A refuge is a place of safety and protection. In times of trouble, when we feel overwhelmed or threatened, God is our secure hiding place. He offers us shelter from the storms of life, a haven where we can find solace and peace.

God is our strength

God is not only our refuge but also our strength. God's strength is limitless, and it becomes our strength when we rely on Him. In our moments of weakness, He empowers us to overcome challenges, endure hardships, and find the courage to press on.

God is a very present help in trouble

The psalmist also assures us that God is an ever-present help in trouble. We can take great comfort in knowing that God is never far from us, but always near. He is attentive to our cries for help, ready to come to our aid at the right time.

Recognize that God's help may not always come in the way we expect or on our preferred timeline, but it will come according to His perfect wisdom and love.

The Confidence to Overcome Fear:

The psalmist concludes these verses with an affirmation of faith:

"Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart

of the sea." Psalm 46:2.

When we truly understand and embrace God as our refuge, strength, and ever-present help, fear loses its grip on us. We can face the most daunting challenges with unwavering confidence, knowing that God is with us.

The Lord is my refuge and my strength

Conclusion: The Lord is my refuge and strength in all things. Do you call on the Lord to be your refuge and strength?

Psalm 46:1-2 reminds us that in God, we have an unshakeable refuge, an unfailing strength, and an ever-present help. As you meditate on these verses, draw near to God, trusting Him with your worries and finding solace in His presence. You can approach each day with the confidence that, regardless of the circumstances, you are secure in God's arms.
