May is a beautiful month to reset your pace with God with scripture-filled prayer. If you’ve been craving consistency, direction, or simply the confidence to keep showing up, this Prayer for May is a simple place to start.

In this post, you’ll find a Prayer for May rooted in Scripture, the Bible verses behind it (Deuteronomy 33:27, Jeremiah 10:23, Lamentations 3:22–23), and what’s inside the May Prayer Journal—part of the 365-Day Prayer Challenge. You can use it digitally, print it at home, or try the paperback prayer journals on Amazon if you prefer writing by hand.

What to Pray for in May

1) Rest in God as your refuge (Deuteronomy 33:27)

May invites you to breathe. God is eternal, steady, and safe. When life feels uncertain or busy, His “everlasting arms” don’t move.

2) Surrender self-direction (Jeremiah 10:23)

This month is also about yielding. It’s easy to plan, push, and steer our lives without asking God first. May is a reminder: we’re not meant to navigate alone—we’re meant to be led.

3) Receive mercy and new beginnings (Lamentations 3:22–23)

God’s compassion isn’t running low. Every morning is a fresh start. Even if April was hard—or you’ve drifted from God, today is the perfect time to come back and spend time in God's presence.

4) For your personal prayers for yourself:

The May prayer journal guides you in praying about living in God's grace and walking out your purpose, being obedient to answering His call on your life.

5)Prayers for your spouse:

The May prayer journal guides you in praying for your spouse, their faith and trust in God, and their courage and boldness in every area of their life.

6) Prayers for children:

The May prayer journal guides you in praying for the children in your life, for:

god's wisdom in their lives:

  1. Discernment in making choices

  2. Praying for Purity of Heart and Mind

  3. Praying for Courage to Do What Is Right

  4. Praying for Their God-Given Purpose

There are many more prayer points with scriptures available in the May prayer journal for friends, church, world, missionaries, and more!

Here is the Prayer for May you can pray today—and return to all month long.

Prayer for May

Heavenly Father,

I come before You in awe, praising You for who You are—the eternal, everlasting God. You are my refuge, my hiding place, my constant source of strength. As Deuteronomy 33:27 declares, "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." You have no beginning and no end. Time cannot contain You, and yet You hold every moment of my life in Your loving hands. I worship You for Your unchanging nature and everlasting faithfulness.

Lord, I humbly confess that there have been many times when I’ve gone my own way, ignoring Your perfect plans for my life. Just as Jeremiah 10:23 says, "I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own; we are not able to plan our own course." I’ve tried to steer without asking for Your guidance, and I’ve leaned on my limited understanding instead of Your infinite wisdom. Forgive me, Lord, for every moment I’ve chosen self-direction over surrender. Help me to trust You fully with every step ahead.

Thank You, Father, for the gift of new beginnings. Thank You for Your mercy that meets me each morning. As Lamentations 3:22–23 so beautifully reminds me: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” No matter what yesterday held, today is a fresh start because of Your love and grace. I am so grateful for Your compassion that never runs dry and for the hope You pour into each new day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Deuteronomy 33:27, Jeremiah 10:23, Lamentations 3:22-23
