You love your spouse. And you want the absolute best for them—spiritually, emotionally, physically. But sometimes, when life gets busy, we forget that the most powerful thing we can do for our spouse… is pray.
There is no greater way to strengthen your marriage and support your husband or wife than by lifting them up daily before the Lord.
There have been times I’ve looked at my husband—stressed, burdened, or simply weary—and wished I had the right scriptures on hand to pray over him instantly. That deep desire to cover him in God’s Word led me to write this blog post. I wanted something more than a quick prayer—I wanted a way to intercede for him with clarity, scripture, and purpose.
I’m also in the process of creating monthly prayer journals, which include focused prayer points for spouses. However, I knew this particular topic deserved something more profound. So in this post, you’ll find 10 powerful prayer points and prayers, each rooted in scripture, designed to help you pray intentionally over your spouse in every season.
🌟I have formatted these scriptures into a PDF for you to download or print out. I have mine printed and in my Bible for easy access, making it easy to dive into prayer. You can download your copy too (link at the bottom of this post)
Prayer For My Spouse - A Note from the Author

Dear friend, I want you to know that this prayer resource was written from a very real place in my heart. I’m not a perfect wife—but I am a praying one. And I’ve learned over the years that prayer is one of the most loving, powerful, and effective ways to support the one with whom we share life.
There have been moments I’ve seen my husband discouraged, overwhelmed, or just needing strength, and I’ve longed to have scripture-based prayers ready to speak over him right then and there. That longing became the seed for this blog post and the prayers you’ll find inside.
These aren’t just general prayers—they’re intentional, scripture-rich, and designed to help you go deeper in covering your spouse in prayer, no matter what season you’re walking through.
I’m also currently writing monthly prayer journals with daily prompts, scriptures, and prayer points—including special space for praying over your spouse each week. But this post is my way of offering something more in-depth, more focused, and more intentional just for them.
I pray this blesses you and your marriage deeply. May it become a resource you return to often—especially on the days when you’re not sure what to pray but you know your spouse needs it.
Blessings,
Karen (Scriptural Grace)

1. Pray that your spouse grows in their personal relationship with God and seeks Him daily.
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 3:18
Prayer:
(Based on 2 Peter 3:18, Jeremiah 29:13, Psalm 1:2–3, and Colossians 2:6–7)
Heavenly Father, I lift up my spouse to You today, asking that they would grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Stir in their heart a deeper hunger to know You, not just know about You, but to truly walk in a close relationship with You.
Lord, You promise that when we seek You with all our heart, we will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). Draw my spouse into a place of wholehearted pursuit of Your presence. Let their quiet moments be filled with You. Let their busy days be anchored in You.
I pray that they would delight in Your Word—that it would be their daily nourishment. May they meditate on it day and night, and be like a tree planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in season, with leaves that do not wither (Psalm 1:2–3). Help them to stand strong, nourished by Your truth.
Lord, as they have received Christ Jesus, help them to continue to live in Him—rooted and built up, strengthened in faith (Colossians 2:6–7). Establish their life on a foundation that cannot be shaken. Let their roots go deep into Your love and truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
2. Wisdom and Discernment - Ask God to guide your spouse in decisions, both big and small.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God...” – James 1:5
Prayer:
(Based on James 1:5, Proverbs 3:5–6, Colossians 1:9, and Psalm 32:8)
Heavenly Father, You are the source of all wisdom. Today, I lift up my spouse to You and ask that You would pour out divine wisdom into their heart and mind. You promise that if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask—and You will give generously without finding fault (James 1:5). So I come to You with confidence, asking You to guide my spouse in every decision they face.
Teach them, Lord, to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding. In all their ways, may they acknowledge You—at work, at home, in quiet moments, and in busy ones—for You make their path straight (Proverbs 3:5–6).
I pray, as Paul did for the Colossians, that You would fill my spouse with the knowledge of Your will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives (Colossians 1:9). Help them to see clearly what is of You, and what is not. Give them discernment in relationships, opportunities, and choices.
And Father, I thank You that You are a personal God who walks closely with us. You said, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8). Let my spouse sense Your loving guidance today. Let them rest in the assurance that You are leading them with wisdom, compassion, and purpose.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
3. Work and Provision - Pray for success, integrity, and favor in your spouse’s work, and that God would bless the work of their hands.
“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands...” – Psalm 90:17
Prayer:
(Based on Psalm 90:17, Proverbs 16:3, Philippians 4:19, Colossians 3:23–24,
and Deuteronomy 28:12)
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of work and the ability to provide and contribute. Today, I lift up my spouse and ask for Your hand of blessing on everything they undertake. Let Your favor rest on them, Lord—establish the work of their hands (Psalm 90:17). May their efforts be fruitful, meaningful, and filled with purpose.
Help them to commit their plans and responsibilities to You. Let them not strive in their own strength, but walk in step with Your wisdom and timing, knowing that when we commit our ways to You, You will establish our plans (Proverbs 16:3).
I pray that You would meet every need they carry—spiritually, financially, mentally, and emotionally. Your Word says, “My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19), and I stand on that promise today.
Whatever their work looks like—whether in an office, at home, in ministry, or in service to others—may they do it with passion and excellence, as unto You and not unto man (Colossians 3:23–24). Let them remember that their labor is not in vain and that You see every hidden effort.
Lord, open the storehouses of heaven and bless all the work of their hands (Deuteronomy 28:12). Provide opportunities, favor, and provision in every season, and help them walk with integrity and joy in all they do.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
4. Physical and Emotional Health - Ask for protection over your spouse's body, mind, and emotions.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3
Prayer:
(Based on Isaiah 41:10, Jeremiah 30:17, 3 John 1:2, Psalm 147:3, Isaiah 40:29–31)
Gracious Father, I lift up my spouse to You today, asking for Your healing, strength, and peace to cover every part of their body and mind. You are our Great Physician and our Sustainer, and I trust You to care tenderly for the one I love.
When they are tired or anxious, remind them of Your words: “Do not fear, for I am with you... I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Hold them up when they feel weak, and let Your presence bring comfort in every moment of stress or struggle.
Lord, You have promised, “I will restore you to health and heal your wounds” (Jeremiah 30:17). So I ask for that restoration now—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Touch any area in need of healing, and bring wholeness in Jesus' name.
I echo the words of Scripture and pray, “May all go well with them, even as their soul is getting along well” (3 John 1:2). May health and peace flourish in their body, mind, and heart.
Father, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds (Psalm 147:3).
If there are hidden hurts or burdens they carry, speak peace into those places and wrap them in Your comfort.
And when they grow weary, when the days feel long and energy runs low, remind them that You give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:29–31). Help them to rise again, with fresh hope and renewed strength.
Thank You for being a faithful and loving God who cares deeply for my spouse. In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.
5. Peace and Joy in Their Heart - Pray that your spouse would experience God’s peace, regardless of circumstances.
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
Prayer:
(Based on Nehemiah 8:10, John 14:27, Philippians 4:6–7, Romans 15:13, and Psalm 16:11)
Heavenly Father, Thank You for being the God of peace and joy—both of which my spouse so deeply needs in a world full of pressures, demands, and distractions. Today, I come before You asking that You would surround them with Your perfect peace and fill their heart with lasting joy.
When the days feel heavy or uncertain, remind them that “the joy of the Lord is their strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Let Your joy lift the weight of discouragement and give them strength to walk through each day with hope.
Lord Jesus, You said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you… do not let your heart be troubled” (John 14:27). I pray that this promise becomes their reality. Let Your calming presence settle over their heart like a gentle breeze, stilling any storm within.
When anxiety creeps in, help them to remember that through prayer and thanksgiving, Your peace will guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6–7). May they bring every worry to You and find rest in Your faithful hands.
God of hope, I ask that You would fill my spouse with all joy and peace as they trust in You, so that they would overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). Let that joy be contagious. Let that peace be unshakable.
And Father, when they draw near to You, may they discover the truth of Your Word: “In Your presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). Draw them into deeper intimacy with You, where joy is not just a feeling—but a foundation.
Thank You for caring about every detail of their emotional and spiritual well-being.I place their heart in Your hands today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
6. Courage and Strength in Trials - Ask God to give them boldness to face challenges and resilience to persevere.
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you.” – Joshua 1:9
Prayer:
(Based on Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 46:1–2, 2 Corinthians 12:9–10, and Deuteronomy 31:6)
Father God, You see every trial my spouse is facing—every burden they carry, every unknown they fear, and every weakness they feel. Today, I bring them before You, asking that You would surround them with Your strength and fill them with unshakable courage.
You have said, “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). So Lord, even in the midst of challenges, remind my spouse that they are never alone. You go before them, walk beside them, and stand behind them.
When fear rises, let them hear Your voice saying, “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you” (Isaiah 41:10). Be the steady hand that upholds them when they feel like they can’t keep going.
You are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1–2). Be that for my spouse right now. When the world shakes around them, help them stand firm in the shelter of Your presence.
And Lord, when they feel weak, help them remember that Your grace is sufficient and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9–10). Let their vulnerability become a place where Your strength shines brightest.
Help them to be strong and courageous—not in their own strength, but because they understand You will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6). Let this truth be an anchor in every storm.
Thank You, Lord, that You are their defender, their source of strength, and the One who carries them through.
In Jesus’ powerful name,Amen.
7. Marriage Unity and Love - Pray for a deeper connection, communication, and love between you.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.” – 1 Peter 4:8
Prayer:
(Based on 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, Ecclesiastes 4:9–12, Ephesians 4:2–3, 1 Peter 4:8, and Mark 10:9)
Lord God, thank You for the gift of marriage. Thank You for joining our hearts, our lives, and our futures together. Today, I pray specifically for unity and love between us. Strengthen the bond we share and deepen the connection we have in You.
Teach us to love as You love—with patience, kindness, humility, and perseverance. Help us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. May our love always protect, trust, hope, and endure (1 Corinthians 13:4–7), even when life feels heavy.
Remind us that two are better than one—that we are stronger together than apart. And when one of us is tired or discouraged, let the other lift them up. May we never walk this journey alone but always with You at the center, as a cord of three strands is not quickly broken (Ecclesiastes 4:9–12).
Lord, give us hearts that are humble and gentle, full of patience and grace. In moments of tension or misunderstanding, help us to bear with one another in love and make every effort to maintain unity through the peace that Your Spirit brings (Ephesians 4:2–3).
When we are tempted to grow distant or to focus on faults, help us to remember that love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). Teach us to forgive quickly, to speak life over each other, and to serve each other with joy.
And above all, Lord, help us never to forget that what You have joined together, no one can separate (Mark 10:9). Guard our marriage from anything that would divide us. Let our love grow deeper, richer, and stronger through every season.
Thank You for being the foundation of our relationship. May our marriage reflect Your faithfulness and bring You glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
8. Protection from Temptation and Harm - Ask for spiritual protection and integrity in their actions and thoughts.
“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” – Matthew 6:13
Prayer:
(Based on Matthew 6:13, 1 Corinthians 10:13, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, Psalm 91:9–11, Proverbs 4:23)
Father God,Thank You for being our refuge, our protector, and our shield. Today I lift up my spouse to You and ask for Your covering over their heart, mind, and life.
Lead them not into temptation but deliver them from the evil one (Matthew 6:13). Guard their thoughts, their choices, and their path. When the enemy tries to whisper lies or lure them into compromise, silence his voice with Your truth.
You have said that no temptation has overtaken us except what is common to man, and that You are faithful to provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13). I pray You would always provide that escape for my spouse—quick conviction, godly wisdom, and the strength to walk away.
You are faithful, Lord, and You will strengthen and protect them from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Let no scheme of the enemy succeed. Place a wall of fire around them. Let Your angels guard them in all their ways (Psalm 91:11).
Help them to guard their heart above all else, for everything they do flows from it (Proverbs 4:23). Keep their heart tender toward You, and steady in righteousness and truth.
I trust You to keep watch over the one I love. Be their defender, their guide, and their rescue in every moment of need.
In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.
9. Purpose and Calling - Pray that your spouse walks boldly in God’s plan for their life.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…” – Ephesians 2:10
Prayer:
(Based on Ephesians 2:10, Jeremiah 29:11, Proverbs 16:9, 2 Timothy 1:9, and Psalm 138:8)
Heavenly Father, Thank You for creating my spouse with intention, gifting them with talents, dreams, and a purpose that only they can fulfill. Today, I pray that You would reveal more of that purpose to them and give them the courage to walk in it fully.
Remind them that they are Your workmanship, uniquely crafted in Christ Jesus for good works You prepared in advance (Ephesians 2:10). Help them not to compare or doubt, but to embrace the specific calling You’ve placed on their life.
Thank You that Your plans for them are good—plans that give hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Let those plans unfold in Your perfect timing, and fill their heart with expectation, not fear.
Even when their path seems uncertain, help them to trust that though they may plan their course, You are establishing their steps (Proverbs 16:9). Give them wisdom and peace in every decision, knowing You are guiding them.
You have not only saved them, but You’ve called them to live a holy life—not because of anything they’ve done, but because of Your purpose and grace (2 Timothy 1:9). May their life reflect that calling with boldness, humility, and joy.
And Lord, when doubts come, remind them that You will fulfill Your purpose for them (Psalm 138:8). You are faithful. Your love endures. And You will finish what You’ve started.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
10. Friendships and Godly Influences in your spouse's life.
Let’s finish this powerful series with Prayer Point 10: Friendships and Godly Influences—an often-overlooked area that deeply affects your spouse’s walk with God, mindset, decisions, and spiritual atmosphere. Ask God to surround your spouse with wise, supportive, and uplifting people.
“He who walks with the wise becomes wise.” – Proverbs 13:20
Prayer:
(Based on Proverbs 13:20, 1 Corinthians 15:33, Psalm 1:1–2, Ecclesiastes 4:9–10, and Proverbs 27:17)
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of relationships. Today I lift up my spouse and ask that You would surround them with people who lead them closer to You. May they walk with the wise and become wise (Proverbs 13:20). Place mentors, friends, and companions in their life who speak truth, live with integrity, and point them toward Your purpose.
Help them to recognize unhealthy influences and step away from relationships that pull them away from their values or dull their spiritual sensitivity. As Your Word says, “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33)—protect their heart from that.
Let them be like the one who does not walk in step with the wicked, but delights in Your law day and night (Psalm 1:1–2). May their inner circle be filled with those who share that same delight and hunger for Your Word.
Bless them with friendships that uplift and encourage—where if one falls, the other helps them up (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10). Let them both give and receive strength in a godly community.
And finally, Lord, send people who sharpen them like iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). People who challenge them to grow, speak life into them, and walk with them in love and truth.
Thank You for being the ultimate Friend and Shepherd of their soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
